Welcome to 4th grade Science
Overview of the 4th grade Science Curriculum
The Intermediate Science program builds on the foundation laid in the primary grades. Students will become more skilled at making observations and learn to quantify and make justifiable inferences from their data. They will begin to develop understanding of systems and make deeper connections between lab experiences and issues in the world around them. Students will continue to develop their communication and argumentation skills as they share their ideas with their peers and the larger community. Through these inquiry experiences, students will learn to view themselves as scientists, and will develop the skills and confidence to apply scientific knowledge and processes in their daily lives.
The 4th grade science curriculum is based on the Next Generation Science Standards and supports Common Core standards in Math and ELA. Science instruction is based on an inquiry approach defined as beginning with a question, and engaging in investigative practices to answer the question. Science content and vocabulary is developed through the inquiry experiences and reinforced through reading and writing and speaking experiences.
